The report also said that the US Congress should reauthorize the Lautenberg Amendment, which aids persecuted Iranian religious minorities and other specified groups seeking refugee status in the United States, and work to provide the President with permanent authority to designate as refugees specifically-defined groups based on shared characteristics identifying them as targets for persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.
A group of families of political prisoners and human rights activists gathered on Monday in front of Iran Bar Association in Tehran. The demonstrators demanded the freedom of Ms. Narges Mohammadi who is currently in the notorious Evin Prison . Ms. Narges Mohammadi, lawyer and human rights activist was arrested at her house on May 5th for being outspoken in defense of human rights in Iran.
Ms. Sarvnaz Chitsaz, Chair of Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran ( NCRI ), in a message to the Iranian people, especially the noble women, called for the expansion of the protests and for solidarity with the Kurdish people and in particular with the courageous women and youth of city of Mahabad and asked them to rise up and join this protest movement against suppression, crime and heinous acts by this antihuman regime.
