Iran: Kurdish student Akam Talaj injured during Mahabad uprising dies

Akam Talaj

Akam Talaj, 26-year-old Kurdish student and one of those wounded during the May 7 uprising of people of Mahabad, died on Monday, June 29, due to the severity of his wounds after much suffering.
He was from the city of Naqadeh and a student of Mahabad’s Free University. He was directly shotby revolutionary guards and hit by 40 pellets in the hand and stomach. He suffered internal bleeding and was hospitalized in the ICU section of a hospital in Urmia because of his critical condition.
Following the martyrdom of Mr. Talaj, the henchmen refused to hand over his body to his family fearing popular wrath. They exerted a lot of pressure on his family to bury Mr. Talaj in “Shaheedan” section of the cemetery reserved for Iranian regime’s dead, but this request by the regime met the severe reaction of Mr. Talaj’s family. Ultimately, the body was then buried in Mahabad amid strict security provisions.

IRAN: Arrestees of Mahabad uprising transferred to Orumiyeh Prison

NCRI - After three weeks of torture and harassment, the antihuman clerical regime has transferred a large number of those arrested in the Mahabad uprising to Orumiyeh Prison in preparation for putting them on trial in its tyrannical courts. Some of the prisoners are just 15 years old and some have family bonds with each other such as father and son.
Two weeks ago, the intelligence ministry dispatched a group of its head henchmen from Tehran to prisons in Kurdistan and Western Azerbaijan to torture and interrogate those arrested in the Mahabad uprising.

IRAN - Mahabad - Anti-regime protests continued despite crackdown

IRAN- MAHABAD- Iranian Demonstrations Heat Up In Kurdish Cities, Met With Military Violence

Iran regime crackdowns on protesters demanding justice for Farinaz Khosravani
Maryam Rajavi , the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, who is living in exile in Paris, said in a statement she supported the demonstrations. The NCRI is a constituent of an umbrella opposition group that includes five political organizations.
The Mahabad protests inspired Kurds living in Iraq, Syria and Turkey to demonstrate themselves. Kurds across the three countries marched in their respective cities, holding signs with the phrase 'JusticeForFarinaz':
Despite the violence in Mahabad, the Iranian government has not issued a public statement on the situation, but religious hardliners in the country have denounced the protests. The radio silence in Tehran appears indicative of a larger struggle taking place between the ruling establishment.

A young woman’s suicide in Mahabad incited public fury and led to anti-government clashes on Thursday, May 7, with people setting fire to the city’s five-star Tara Hotel.
Infuriated youth chanted, “We are Farinaz” referring to the young woman who threw herself off the fourth floor of the hotel to avoid being exploited by a government intelligence agent upon the permission of the hotel owner.
The hotel’s owner promised the intelligence officer to arrange settings for him to have intimate relations with Farinaz Khosravani in exchange for registration of an additional star promoting the hotel’s ranking.
However, Farinaz did not allow such assault on herself and threw herself off the window in self-defense.
The people of Mahabad have called for another protest on Friday, May 9.
The incident is a reminder of the October 25, 2014, hanging execution in Tehran of Rayhaneh Jabbai, the 26-year-old woman, who stabbed an intelligence officer in self-defense at the age of 19 and refused to cooperate with the regime in whitewashing the crimes of the Intelligence Ministry top agent.
